Faster but it takes some fun out of driving.

IMO Tiptronic has crossed the line between driver skill requirements and technology.

i have an audi and the tiptronic is 100% pointless it has faster response in auto.... if you are debating btwn tip and manual i would def go stick but if you are just looking for a chill car then tip adds to a little of the fun factor.

I have a passat with tiptronic. I don't like it at all. But if you don't like stick I guess it can be fun.

The only form of Tiptronic that seems to start to compare to a manual is BMW's SMG and Audi's DSG (only avalible on the TT I belive.)

Hey hey hey, you need to take into concideration the year as well. I may be wrong, but IIRC, VW/Audi were the first ones to have it, and it was in some Porsches. They use the same 5spd tip in the Passat as in the auto W12 Phaeton. I know for sure I got the first year of it (9 so obviously there are problems.

Occasionally it wont want to shift up, but never had a problem downshifting with it. Earlier gens kinda suck though, I know VW made tweaks a few years ago and they are managable now.

But having driven manual....there is NO replacement..
