Into tuning what? What does he want to "tune" or shall we say "try to tune". Turbo/supercharged? Does he like turbo imports or nitrous domestics? Just get a freakin honda, if he wants to "tune" he can throw a turbo kit on it, so when he blows it up it will be cheap to replace/rebuild.

Sorry when I say tuning I'm not talking about hanging out with a wideband and tweaking a standalone system. I'm just saying he's likes cars that have been modified.

And he typically likes imports but I'm trying to steer him towards something that's modified easily.

Sounds like a fox body to me .. tell him to pick up a 5.0 mustang magazine and take a look at some of the parts they have to offer, incredible aftermarket for the cars and everything is cheap and easy to fix whenever something happens to break, but with my car I've only replaced high mileage stuff, alternator, starter, battery, clutch quadrant .. all cheap fixes, too.

If he gets a Honda, he may be obligated to rice it

Just kidding. I'd say Miata, if hes REALLY into cars. Light RWD, great autocrosser, with the right equipment it can compete in other events too. Or a 240SX. Late 80s Camry will NEVER die on him, and comes with a weak version of the MR-2 motor. Theres too many to list. Hell I went through 25 choices myself
