ok well i know its not really Nissan tech, I don't exactly like most of the people in FFA...sooo...tonight on my way home from work, was pretty glad to be out worked noon - 10:20pm not fun stocking water all day...so me and a friend hit a red light and then it turns green and start to go normal hit 2nd and just keep it there until i hit 45-50 floored, then let off since the speed is 45 on that road, so guess who comes flying out bhind me a cop pulls us both over...so yeah I've got a court date, what should I do? what is going to happen i got in tell the judge my story and he rapes me?? temptation is a bitch... get a lawyer. In your case dont plead guilty... tell him u werent racing and u were only going 45. The cop cant say u were going 100mph with no proof or make up a lie saying that you werent racing, u were trying to catch up to your friend and u were STILL only going 45 and u had to tell them you were going to turn and they didnt know their way around so you wanted to let them know you were turning

if its speeding, just handle it normally.
if its street racing, you might be best getting a lawyer.

if you both were accelerating quickly next to eachother, that would be street racing, no matter what speed you stop at.

 

It doesn't sound like the cop has much on you, but you haven't given much detail. What was the ticket for? Did you exceed the speed limit? Does the cop have proof that you exceeded the limit? To my knowledge there is no law limiting the rate of acceleration. If the speed limit is 45mph and you reach that in 1.5 seconds you haven't broken any law.

 

That's why they got wreckless driving and exhibition of speed.

Regardless, how did the cop determine either? Did the cop time the rate of acceleration? Did the drivers break traction? Lose control? Cross a solid white line?

Judge: So officer, how did you determine an exhibition of speed?
Cop: They accelerated really, really fast.
Judge: Did you clock them?
Cop: No.
Judge: Then how did you come to the conclusion that they accelerated really fast?
Cop: It just looked like it.
Judge: Dismissed.

A cop just can't just say "I think they were doing this or that." A cop still needs to have proof or witnesses. A lawyer sees to it.
