Default eeprom programmer

does anyone know how difficult it is to program an eeprom using a chip burner like the willem unit on ebay? I am looking at burners for tuning an ecu and will be using the at29c256 eeprom. is this a drag and drop situation since the eeprom is "flash"memory? thanks for the help

Programming the chip is the easy part. The 29c256 is a good choice, no annoying erase cycle like the 27sf512 I'm using right now, I'm probably going to pick up a few 29c256 chips before too long. I have one of the basic willem burners from ebay, the ones going for 45 buy-it-now out of British Columbia, and it's a good unit for the price, it does its job. Now that all of that is out of the way, the only thing you need to know is what to do about this:

The highlighted section is my two-step rev limiter code. Say hello to it- "Hello, Two-Step rev limiter code! 5k launch with full boost? Whee!"

If you weren't born with an innate ability to interpret and modify that code, you might want to check here:
http://forum.pgmfi.org/

Also, a PM to Vertigo wouldn't be a bad idea.

holly shit that looks confusing, I understand electronics and the basics of hexdecimal addressing but damn. do you have to know which address is for what or can you edit it in the romeditor and just export the file to the chip using the willem?

I don't know much about the Honda side of things, and I'm just a noob with the DSM side, I just gained a basic understanding of the assembly code used in the ecu by reading the tech manual and I've read through pretty much all of the dsm-ecu list. I believe there are GUI's available for Honda folks unlike the situation on the dsm side and I do know that the board I linked in my last post and https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/s...der=descending
are your friends.

I went to the pgmfi.org and holy shit..... alot of good info, registered the same screen name there asked the same type of question and got the answer quickly....oh and it was the answer I was looking for.

the willem software will let you choose and open any .bin thats saved on the computer, so I can edit it in the hondata editor, save it, then use the willem software to open the .bin by going into c:/program files/hondata/romeditor/saves/****.bin

or something similar and then click on burn in the willem gui. easy as del*.* on a commodore thanks man the pgmfi is now in my favorites just below tr

No problem. I'm a big fan of rom tuning, cheaper than piggybacks with most of the functionality of a standalone. Pretty cool stuff.

def worth learning, you can set rev limits, vtec points, a/f ratio based on boost, timing, all kinds of shit for fuel mapping, o2 manipulation, cool shit.
