Rebuilt Title?
What happens if a a car has a rebuilt title? I mean does it's value depreciate or what? On this specific car it was in a driver side collision. In the door jam it now has a rebuilt sticker of some sort. Is the only real way to check a CARFAX? Can anybody do this for me?
If the title is branded as rebuilt.....that's all you need to know, and there's nothing you can do to change it. Rebuilt title automatically voids any remainder of a factory warranty, severely reduces the vehicles value, and resale potential. 99.99999999% of banks won't finance the purchase of a vehicle with a rebuilt title (some credit unions will though). If the car you're speaking of has a rebuilt title.....it means it was in a REALLY bad accident.....probably significant frame damage.....or was totalled by the insurance company but was bought back and repaired.
Not necessarily in a bad accident though. If the car was ever titled to the junkyard it instantly becomes salvage, even if it was in perfect condition, and them from salvage, the next step is rebuilt. My car is still salvage, not even rebuilt, but that's because someone junked it in the late 70's early 80's.
Now on a new car, that bitch prolly got wrecked!

no i bought a car with a rebuilt title. I checked the VIN #'s to make sure they matched but that was all. Never thought to check the other. I saw a rebuilt sticker in the door jam and then it occurred to me to check and that's when I realized the car had a rebuilt title.

It is going to hurt resale, but if you are happy with it now, who cares?
I am not sure how anal the state is or who ever in regards to making sure the car is straight again. But, chances are, it was fixed right, so it really is going to be pretty close to having never been in an accident.
You may have ended up paying too much, but if the car is straight, I wouldn't worry about it.
