Default Impact Tools

I'm looking for a cheap impact wrench and air compressor combo. Anybody used the compressor they sell at Advance Auto? I heard it's not bad for a $50 compressor. I also heard their cheap impact tools aren't bad either. Any comments, suggestions?

Would you consider renting. Last time I dropped my tranny to replace the clutch it came out like $16 to rent an electric impact and all the tools :o the bitch was bad ass. It's dirt cheap and if you need impact tools only once in a blue moon just rent it.

Toma's right. If you're gonna make the investment in air tools, you need to buy a GOOD compressor. Standard 1/2" impact wrenches don't take that much air. But you'll want an air rachet too. They take quite a bit. Cutoff wheels take TONS. You'll quickly want tools that your compressor can't handle for more than about 2 seconds without kicking the compressor on to fill the tank. Once you hit that point, you're going to cycle it on and off so quickly that it'll burn out.

So, that said. Go to lowes or home depot or harbor freight. Most air tools have a rating for how much air they need (CFM). Then look at compressors and see what they can sustain.

I've got a 6hp compressor w/ a 25 gallon tank that sustains 6.2cfm @80psi. When I'm using the impact wrench heavily the compressor comes on quite a bit, but not so much that I'm concerned about burning it up. I wish I had gone bigger.

that one will do the job

i have this one (saves more garage space standing up) 3 less gallons though. Runs all the pneumatics - ratchet, cutoff, impact, air hammer.. At the time i bought mine it came with a couple of those tools included. It was a good deal.

Those are both awesome compressors. ESPECIALLY for the money.

My roommate found some Husky 32 gallon, 5.5psi deal with all the tools and sockets for $299 at Home Depot. Anybody had any problems with Husky?

From what I hear, Husky is a pretty decent company. They carry a lifetime warranty similar to Craftsman (not sure if this applies to air tools though).

Groovy. That's probably what my roommate's going to buy. He can't crack some crankcase bolts out of his '88 V45 Honda motor, so he's finally breaking down and getting some impact tools.

I'd go with Craftsman for the simple fact
that they service them locally.
No, the sears warranty only applies to handtools.
They will tell you suck a bigone after 30 days on
a compressor. Too many ways the average joe could
ruin it.

Stale, doesn't that sears one look familiar?

Is that a gun in your hand in your avatar there cowboy?
