Question Volvo

Does anyone here know about/own Volvos. I know parts are really expensive, but I see Volvos with 200K+ miles all the time. The build quality,fit/finish appears to be pretty high. Are there any models to stay away from or certain problematic areas with'em in general. Reliability of drivetrain, etc. Oh, and why do they depreciate so bad? Thanks!

My ex roommate had an early to mid 90's Volvo of some sort (the generic ones you see everywhere). It always had wiring/electrical issues with the lights and turnsignals. Otherwise that car was bullet proof.

Jon's volvo was a 240. They're solid cars and they crash really well (as most every Volvo does). Plus, the old 240 Volvos can run on dirty dish water gasoline and not care.

No, I didn't ask about Audi/VW's.

What's the deal with German and Swedish cars being plagued by the electrical gremlins?

I have rebuilt a few volvo boat motors but never one of their car motors. That says something about their reliability.

Maybe the two companies should pit them against each other a no rules brawl for world dominance.

i have a friend who has a 2000 s70.. seems to run well.. nice inside. she needs it bc she sucks at driving. if my parents could have their way, my ass would be in a volvo as well.. they're supposedly really safe.

It's actually 2,000,000 miles. The car is a 1966 P 1800S owned by a guy named Irv Gordon. It turned 2 million miles back in 2000 or 2001 and I believe he has added another 100k miles onto that.

Anyway, I daily drive a '96 850 "Turbo Brick." I bought the car with 89k miles in late September and I just turned 109k miles delivering parts to a fellow TR member tonight. These have not exactly been "easy" miles, either. Just ask Fordified or shinysideup about that. I have no real complaints with the car and it hasn't given me any trouble. I have a vacuum leak to fix and I found a tear in the passenger's side CV boot last week. Those are pretty much the only "repairs" that I've had to do. These cars do VERY well in crashes. I did battle with an '03 Cobra about a month ago and to look at the car you wouldn't even guess that it had stood its ground against a 4000 pound car. It looks like someone just backed into it.

Anyway, I can give you plenty of facts and opinions about the 850/70 series cars. If that's what you're looking for I'll let you know what to look out for.
