Crap, My Turbine Is Damaged
Crap, My Turbine Is Damaged
Well, I was planning on rebuilding my turbo today but I made a grusome discovery instead.
Though the bearings, seals and compressor were in great shape I discovered that the the turbine was damaged by a passing chunk of something solid.
I am pretty sure it was one of my blocked off air injector tubes that stick out into the exhaust ports. Since my car was de-emissionized these no longer had any cooling air and I discovered that a couple of them had their tips melted off when tearing down the motor. I guess one or more of them broke off a large enough chunk to cause this damage.
It looks like its time to seek out a replacement though I will be doing a little research and experimentation to see if I can heat the blade tips with my TIG and straighten them out.
Oh well, murphy's law always prevails in a complex project but I was hoping a 2 week back order on my ARP rod bolts was going to be all the bad I luck I would have to deal with.
If anyone has a badly damaged turbine I would greatly appreciate any donations I can use for destructive tests.

you can replace the turbines as well... still cheaper than buying a new turbo.
Get a new one I say. Or get one of the same size and a bit bigger compressor.Whatever you do, dont ghetto it just get a new one.
