You can upgrade that 331 in this article to a SVO R block which makes the price go from $3500 to about $4,750 and then it is good to 1,200 h.p. ! And we are not talking about a 400 inch motor here either.

LS1 is still a better buy. Who cares if it is just a tad bigger.
A DSM, 122cubic inch 4g63 can make over 1000hp on the stock crank and block. I dont know of any ford or GM that can say that. But at the same time no DSM has made 1500 hp yet. I guess size does matter. If i was building anouther V8 right now it would be a no brainer. And it wouldnt be a ford.

+1

1000 HP on a stock DSM block and crank from 122 ci is VERY impressive!

BTW the LS1 and LQ4 (iron block like mine) blocks and stock crank can go to the 1000 hp mark and beyond.

Look for a few of the new 6.0 aluminum (LS2) block motors out soon that will be in the 1200-1400 HP range, with aftermarket crank of course.

Ron...that wont be me with the 1200 hp no way! Those guys are some heavy hitters. Kurt Urban with Wheel to Wheel is buildning some wicked stuff for the LS1 race series stuff. Things will get interesting in the begining of next year for LS1 racing.

I am hoping to be, lets just say, MUCH more than my previous 707 rwhp and about 3300 lbs with me in the car.

You forgot to add the word blower to your sentence

You meant "less size and a blower"
