only problem with the carreras is the air conditioning wasn't that great until the 964 chassis.

and i don't see what the problem with a boxster is. great looking car that will outhandle 95% of the cars on the road. extremely fun to drive....

50/50 weight distribution + longer wheelbase than the 911 = lots of potential for turning a great handling car into a car that handles as well as most race cars.

 

Yes 99TL - and I saw that Boxster the last time I was at Sebring.

It was pretty bad ass.

Same as true for the Carreras - a little mod and the AC can be OK - $$$$ and it can be great.

 

guy who built that boxster is basically a 2nd dad to me. he is in the process of building another one right now.

my brother has an 87 factory turbo body cab and when i spoke to Mickey (guy who built the boxster) he said that it isn't a good idea to swap to the r134 air conditioning systems with the carreras. i was gonna have the ac swapped in that car but he changed my mind.

 

and to give you an idea of how capable the boxster is... the pictured boxster has run a best of 2:29.xxx @ sebring with a basically stock motor (intake), and all steel body panels in place.

 

I have 134a in my car and it is OK - the problem with 134a is the smaller molecule size and the Porsche AC hoses. They designed the hoses to leak when r12 was plentiful. They actually have little holes - so if you keep the 134a charged it's not too bad - If I park in the sun all day - then come into a hot car, then yes, it takes forever to cool. In the morning on the way to work I can be comfortable in a shirt and tie.

The best thing to do is replace the hoses - and the 911 has about 30 feet of hoses. 2nd best thing is to replace the small stock front condenser with a larger under belly condenser. 3rd best thing is to replace the older technology compressor with a sanden or rotary compressor.
