go for looks, i've used to have one, it was yellow/yellow and yellow stiching on headrest, some yellow carbon fiber interior, eyelids, muffler, altezzas, stereo system and got rear ended, thank GOD, cuz it was really slow...hahah...it was back in 2000 i paid only $6k and later insurance gave me $10500k, cuz it was totalled, so it was a good trade out

Save your money and buy something else. A Ford Focus is a daily driver and it will never be fast without dumping the value of the car back into it. Buy a Nissan 240 and play with that. Give it some turbo and enjoy. Don't waste your time with the Focus.

My suggestion is to:
1. Buy my B&M short shifter.
2. Save up and buy a nice suspension setup. I only paid $800 for my FK Coilovers. Very nice firm ride. Probably the best suspension for the money for the Focus.
3. Since you have a header, get an off-road pipe. Picks up quite a bit of low end (suprisingly) with less restrictive exhaust. I also have one of these for sale for cheap.
4. Cams. Crower Stage 2's are the best bang for the buck. Get a quality set of cam gears as well...FocusSport/Kent are some of the best out there.
5. Ported early 2000 intake manifold. This manifold was cast from one piece of plastic. About half way through 2000 they went with a two piece manifold design which was much more restrictive. You can find the early 2000 manifolds on Ebay, and they are easily cleaned up with a Dremel by someone who knows what they are doing.
6. Lightened flywheel. Basically the Focus has a 25-30lb flywheel and makes for quite a lethargic reving motor. Drop down to a Fidanza or FocusSport which weigh in a hair under 9lbs.
Check out www.focaljet.com . Great bunch of people and lots of good info to be had.

The Focus isn't the greatest platform to start with for a drag racer.
It is however a wonderful blank canvas to start with for an autocrosser.
I've had both Mustang's and "sport compacts", and I enjoy both for their unique strengths. Not everyone seems to be able to see both sides I guess.

while you could make your focus zippy and fun to drive, you'll never get it into twelves while working at steak and shake. why not save up $6,000 and buy a nice used bike. you'll be able to outdrag 95% of the cars on here and going through the twisties (which is why you SHOULD buy a bike) will be hella fun.
