Question Difference in welders?

i know that there is the MIG, TIG, and the Arc welders. what are the differneces between them? i know that the TIG is tungsten or something. help a brother out and gimme some info. i was leaning towards getting a MIG self feeding welder on ebay for about $300ish. let me know if anyone has any suggestions.

china
ps: i just wanted a welder so that i can bullshit and build some cool stuff. i really want to have the ability to do my own exhausts and perhaps a roll cage (nothing too serous, just to have something to do)

SWEET! Something interesting!

MIG: Metal Inert Gas
TIG: Tungsten Inert Gas

The difference between the three is so great that it would take me a LONG time to type it all out. The best thing for YOU (IMO) for what you want to do would be a wire feed with flux core wire. That way you're not messing with gases or anything. You don't want a TIG as it take VERY long to do ANYTHING, and for welding thin shit like exhaust piping and what not you will burn through it quicker than hell with a stick welder. With flux core you can go relatively quickly AND have a substantial amount of strength.

If you have questions then go for it, i only touched base here to let you know what i think would be best for you.

tru that man. so i guess that the mig is the way to go then eh? i was at walmart the other day and they had a mig welder, but i figured that nothing out of that place is worth the money, UNLESS it is the french onion sun chips (thoese are damn good). do you know of anywheres local (tampa area) that i could go to pick up a small welder for cheap? what is a good voltage welder to go with?

thanks

http://www.hobartwelders.com/products/handler140.html

Check that out, i wouldn't go much under that, it's probably over kill for you, but better safe than sorry. Ebay has some decent used ones, stick with Miller, Hobart, there is another good brand that i can't remember right now! Miller is the best IMO. As far as places to buy one, there is a place called Airgas in Clearwater, we got a lot of our stuff from them. Just run a search on whitepages.com or something.

what welds are the one's that look so sweet, like the one's on high end bicycle frames and motorcycle frames.. like the nice aluminum welds, steel welds..
some welds look like someone squeezed some metal out of a ketchup tube those are terrible which is which between all of em?
