Default Electrical Issue

after replacing my flywheel, shift linkage, ignition coil, rear main seal and freeze plugs on my 92 camaro i drove it around with no problems then all of a sudden last night i turned on my head lights and my dash lights went out soon to follow where my tail lights then my gauges completely. i found the fuses blown so replaced them and everything worked, but when i start to drive those three blow once more. i replace them again and drive once more and smoke comes from the dash and i can smell burnt wire. Im this has never happened untill the above mentioned was fixed and im just not understanding why the fuse keep blowing and why and what wire would have burnt up.

In the process of taking stuff out to repair it, I'd say you generated an electrical gremlin.

Get a wiring schematic and a multimeter and start looking for the short....

electical problems are bad mmmmkay.....

You could have a grounded wire to a bad fuse block. I had something like that in my 69 mustang. You may just have to do a process of elimination. Hell man your voltage regulator could be shot and juice is spiking your system and frying your fuses. I would prolly take it somewhere since ALL of your fuses are blowing........ just my suggestion.

yep........with the newer cars it is next to impossible to track down a "gremlin" take some where they have a diagnostic macine and they can tell you what it is then you can fix it. eletrical problems will have you pulling your hair out. IMO it is worth the $50 or so to have someone else go your problem is here.

A 'diagnostic macine' is not going to help anyone track down a shorted wire.

This was the kind of work that Reeves used to throw at me all the time. All you need is a good understanding of electrical systems, a multi-meter and an electrical schematic to find and fix the problem.

Its a pain in the ass to do but good for the shop if they charge by the hour to track down the problem.

The most likely cause is that you damaged an electrical harness when working around the motor or tranny.

What you are describing is the parking light circuit. Just fixed a Honda with the same problem(all the same lights blew out). Ended up being the licence plate lights were rubbing the body of the car(car was in a previous accident). Off the top of my head, all the things in the circuit were as follows: front and rear parking lights, gauge cluster lights, radio dimmer wire(radio dimms when lights are on), dash lights dimmer, parking light/headlight switch, and anything else that is suppose to light up on the dash(hazzard button, defroster button, ac/heater controls, cigarette lighter light, etc......... I would take a mental inventory of what has been messed with lately. Have you changed any bulbs or removed the radio? Also, water is the worse type of short(hard to find), so mabey one of your exterior lights got wet? If it was a honda i could help more, but good luck anyways.
