GUMBALL OR CANNONBALL RUN!! Would you like to be in one?
I have been watching alot of PPV and they had a show about the Gumball 3000, I just think that is the coolest thing, Its like a wet dream for anyone who is into cars. I mean you get to drive the highways and screw with people and just HAUL ASS with no reguard of the law to a finish line almost accrost country stopping along the way to race indy cars and party at expensive hotels with hot women..The only thing to more my level of dream is a Poker Run. What do you think? Think you would ever want to do something like this?

The original "Cannonball Run" was put on in the 1970's by Brock Yates (Car & Driver journalist and author) in defiance of the 55mph speed limits, and against Ralph Nader and his proposed plans to wimp down cars. It was a true event with true car enthusiasts. It exists today in an entire different form - the "One Lap of America."
The Gumball 3000 is as much a Cannonbal Run copy as the movie Gumball Rally is a copy of the movie Cannonball Run. At any rate, it was a cool event for a couple of years when it was from London to St. Petersburg, Russia and back.
Every since it came to USA, and that horrible "Gumball Mischief" dvd came out, the GUmball has died. Its now just a glamour cruise, with rich people who dont know shit about cars can just show off and party. If you are true car person, this event isnt for you.
If I was going to create one, I would allow you in by what your automotive credentials are, not by how rich and famous you are.
So no, I wouldnt run in the Gumball, and you cant run in the Cannonball since it hasnt existed since the 1970's

Ok I should clarify, Forget about the Financial Status. More along the lines of the pure rush factor. I mean most of he people go to streetraces for the rush or excitement of the unpredictable, sometimes good sometimes bad but none the less the cars. I use the name of the Gumball and Cannonball for concept purposes. I still think this is a dream that would be so much fun. Or even a TR member's ride with like 300 cars.

those ppl in the gumball run had too much money and time on their hands. C'mon one of them bought a brand new ferrari just for that event. I would like to see a more...realistic version other than cars over $100k ya know? I just dont think I could afford the tickets haha. I think someone should set something up for a year or so in advance, call sponsors and junk, and give the rest stop info just to the sponsors so authorities dont get a hitch on it.

A cross country run would be bad ass but the price you pay in tickets and wear/tear on your car puts it out of my league.

The Silver State Challenge is one street race that I would love to do. Its not as long as the others. But its held twice a year and not too many cars finish in the upper classes. 90 miles of street racing no speed limits. The only speed limits is safety requirements. But then I don't think they pull you over for breaking your limit, just get disqualified.
Best part is you can run almost any car.
To run unlimited yor car needs to pass spec. and you have to have raced at a previous 150 mph level.
