dont know shit about chevys but i would assume it has something to do with the 454 being a big block and the 396 being a small block. not much more displacement but alot more weight on the nose of the car which is where you dont want it.

good point...that 396 chevelle or 351 Mach, will be great on gas. if u plan on building a race car...dont worry bout MPG...if thats a concern...stick to ur altima.
