Default Project Progress (Stainless & Magnesium)

Let me start out by saying what a bitch both of these materials are to work with.

Even with a grinder or sandpaper its hard to put a scratch in hard stainless and magsium has to be the softest metal I have ever worked with.

To start off with my entire exhaust system was covered with a decade and half of baked on earth and grime that had might as well been a ceramic coating and my fan was covered with flaking red paint. After doing a bit of clean up work by hand on the fan and getting the exhaust system sand blasted I spent this weekend doing the detail work so the plumbing on my car looks nice until it gets all nasty again. Hopefully it will be a while since it will no longer be a daily driver.

Nothing looks duller than sand blasted metal but I couldn't justify polishing it either so I just went for in between with the brushed look instead. Unfortunately it was quite laborious since a wire brush wouldn't even leave a mark but thank god my abrasive wheels could.

I will spend the rest of the week polishing the fan since its only down to a 200 grit etch.

Enjoy the pics . . . .

The attack of the power tools started with my collector and wastegate pipe.

As the rust shows apparantly the flanges that connect to the head are the only part of the exhaust system that are not stainless.

Porsche appears to have a habbit of stamping the car's model number onto every part, no matter how big or how small.

One of the nicest pics of my recent work, the whole kit and kaboodle in its pseudo configuration.
