Unorthodox engine break-in
The page seems to be tied into selling some sort of e-magazine, "power news" or something like that, but the content seems to be legitimate, even if possibly wrong.

This "full throttle" break in method goes against everything I've been taught when it comes to the first 1000 miles of a car's life. I remember interstate drives at 55 and eggshell gas pedal techniques when I first drove my dad's 02 accord. Now this guy says to give it some gas and let it rip to promote engine life and even ring wear?
What do you guys think?

both ideas seem to work, but id rather do it the safe slow way. But I know of at least 1 motor that was broken in the other way and its still running. Lots of things have changed since the old school wasy made up, we now have roller cams, better building control and quality parts.
the first time a motor (read this as new block or motor straight from the factory) is run... you should take lots of time to ease it in because the heat cycling is changing things inside of it.. this cycling is necessary for the engine to reach proper sizes and clearances internally for smooth operation..
With a rebuilt motor, everything (or most everything) that is in the motor (or rather the block) has already been heat cycled, and after a very short time it is fairly evident if the rings have been seated or not.. at this point using this "full throttle" method is acceptible and possibly better.

Yeah we did
Anyway, I wouldn't recommend beating the piss out of it from the start, but driving it with an egg under your foot for the first 5k miles or whatever is also overkill. With new advances in ring technology, many rings are seated to the bore when you are hand turning the engine over checking bearing clearances and installing the pistons. Bearings are the same way. Usually take it easy for the first 200 miles and you'll be fine. Hell, my motor I just ran off the wastegate (8psi) for the first few hundred miles, kept it below 5500 RPM, and it stopped smoking and has 170psi on all cylinders now.

I think its stupid to run a engine hard before its had 2500..It almost like running a engine hard while its cold, you get the same effect.
I built a 2.3 Ford back in 1987 and I did the 500 mile break in, worse mistake of my life. I would never recommend any less than 2500 miles and in that amount of miles, 3 oil changes.
