Tom, that is great and all, but my main problem seems to be variable file size, from pic to pic. These are all scanned 35mm. Some come up to like 4,000 kb and I don't know why.
Please help.

reduce the image quality compression in photoshop too like 4 or 5. You wont notice much difference at all and they will all be under a 100 k. If you have a bunch theres an automation for batches you can do in photoshop as well so you dont have to do it one at a time.
