Default block sealer

I'm curious...anyone tried any of the radiator/block sealers? A coworker has used it for a radiator, and it worked for him (20 years ago). But I'm not sure yet on using it for a head gasket leak (or cracked head) yet.

Any experience with this stuff?

Alumaseal is my shortcut of choice when it comes to small coolant leaks but when it comes to blown head gaskets where the cylinder is no longer sealing there is nothing in a bottle that will help you.

So, then it may work, assuming I still have compression in the 2 cylinders? When I tested it last, I didn't write them down, but I noticed lower compression in #1; the shop I took it to did a test and showed low compression in #1 and #2. I can check it again myself, to see if there is any in those cylinders anymore.

If I do this, and it works, how long might it last? I know, anything's possible, an hour, month, 20 years...but any expectations? Should I consider it temporary until I can get more time to change the head gasket?

Basically I don't want a temporary fix that will end up invariably ruining the engine in the long run. I need to replace the exhaust manifold gasket anyhow.

My Tempo is acting up, and I'm tired of dumping money into it. Nobody would give me 1/4 of what I've put into it in just a year. I think I'm gonna buy another stick, and my girlfriend will just have to get used to it!

Coolant sealers will only fix small low pressure leaks.

Cracked cylinders and blown head gaskets do not qualify as such but if you are losing water from the jacket to the outside of the motor it may work.

Its a couple bucks for some alumaseal. What could it hurt?

BTW - My escort had a small coolant leak when I bought it that was fixed right up with the stuff.

do not over use it. They are known for clogging smal lines and radiator/heaterbore tubes

So basically then, if it doesn't work, it shouldn't hurt it, just go ahead with changing the head gasket? I'm very wary of quick-fix products...don't want to ruin my engine because of it, I've waited 2 months to fix this gasket.

and my brake rotors are rusting from it sitting in the yard so long ): guess I learn to do brakes next.
