He should be fine. These engines are known to hold a really good seal for weel over a 100k miles. Personally I had a vortech for 60k miles on a stock 140k mile shortblock and it is still going to this day (a buddy has it in his car).

He could check basic things like compression beforehand but if he had any problem it would be from valve seals and not rings.

Do you own a Torch Red FRC and tremble every time you drive under I75 on Hwy 60 and look in your rearview mirror? If so you are suffering from what is known as Cobraphobia.

At 95k, his 5.0 is not quite broken in yet but it will make an excellent candidate for a blower. Mine stood up to about 40k worth of blown abuse and finally died of stupidity at 130k. Not at all the fault of the mileage.

i'd freshen it up anyway, (rings, bearings, etc) if you're going to put 2-3k worth of supercharger on it, might as well make sure you're getting the full benefit of the power adder. Don't have to, but if it were my car i would.

not a bad idea, it might be worth it in the long run

Yeah but if you are gonna go through all of the hassle of doing that you may as well put some pistons in. then since he has it apart he needs to do something about the heads right? At the least rebuild the stock ones (but why?). Then a cam (since it is apart), Arp bolts, gaskets, intake(why reuse the stock one?), etc... See, it becomes a little more involved than "rings, bearings, etc". I mean going that route you have just added a couple more thousand on top of the blower.

Until he is ready to put heads on it I wouldn't even go past taking the valve covers off.

Remember these motors had moly rings from the factory, excellent ring seal for a production engine. Like the good Dr. said, it is barely broken in.

True about the tranny stuff....make sure he gets a 255 intank pump, some larger injectors and maybe a T rex if he doesnt go with the intank. If he's treated the car nicely (ie hasn't beat the hell out of it) and has given it regular oil changes and there are no issues right now - it should be okay if he doesn't pulley it for 16 lbs and gets it tuned conservatively.

Just an FYI - the 93 was the first year I do believe that Ford quit using the Forged internals. If he's going to get into the motor, he might as well make it a bit stronger since its already apart.
