Turbo's suck part 3

Taken from an email I just received.
Mikes car is an 88 Thunderbird Turbocoupe that he built for drag radial competition. As you can see, he is running a stock shortblock 351w. Details are on his web page www.toohighpsi.com go to the "single turbo Tbird" under "Mikes current projects"
Ahh, finally got to go back to the track again.
Fortunatly the car did not go slower so that is a good
thing...
I had a few issues that still need to be worked out
but overall the car ran very well considering the
amount of changes (new engine management, camshaft)
Best pass was my last run of the night - even with the
fuel pump suction uncovering and loosing pressure 2
times during the pass (shown on datalog) causing a
miss off the line and after the shift to second. I
knew I needed more fuel in the tank, but didn't have
any.
Boost was at ~19 psi, shifts at 6300 and thru the
traps at 6800 RPM, Tires are 325/50/15 BFG Drag
Radials and car now weighs 3360 with me in it.
60 1.496
1/8 6.313
MPH 113.60
1/4 9.804
MPH 139.53
I also ran a pass at 16 psi which was 9.87 @ 139 MPH -
was 3 MPH slower in the 1/8.
The extra boost didn't really help me much at all in
the 1/4 mainly due to the 3.55 gears that I am
running. The engine runs strong to about 6500 but
that's it. Even with only 16 psi I am turning 6800 RPM
to get thru the traps - A little more RPM than I like
to turn the stock bottom end that I have. During the
first pass that I ran - I was trying to watch
everything that I could and didn't watch the tach
close enough - Data log showed a 7000 RPM 1-2 shift
, note to self - don't try that again..... Looks
like I'll be going to a set of 3.08s before I visit
the track again.
I still have some more work to do on my boost
controller, the SAAB electronic bleeder valve/orfice
that I am using with the AEM have would only allow me
to run ~19 psi. I was hoping to go 25+ but that will
also have to wait until next time.
Dave Flanders was pitted beside me last night with his
2.3L (actually 2.5L I think) Turbo Mustang. He was
flying as usual - running high 9's/low 10's @ ~135MPH.
Truly an amazingly fast car!

FORCE FED 2.3---- as a new 2.3T owner im happy to see these cars AND trucks running good.
2.3L SVO TURBO-----have you seen the size of the con rods in these 2.3T engines? i think they are bigger than the 5.0L.
oh by the way I have added a 2.3T 83 Ranger to the stable. it runs ok despite the poor conversion that the original owner did.
count it----1983 2.3T Ranger
1987 V8 Ranger
1988 Mustang x-FHP coupe
1998 Mustang GT
i think im in a rut

FORCE FED 23----i was wondering what to do about the a/c. the turbo wants to live in the same spot as the evaporater. the original owner put 3" body lift on it to clear the a/c. the air works but the truck looks like a pre-runner. to complicate the whole thing the truck has a small Ford Motorsports FMIC and he ran the IC piping under the core support on top of the frame. duh. i would be interested in the header, ive been looking around and found a guy who makes a header to keep a/c and he is wanting $250 uncoated. the header he is selling looks like a factory Ford N/A header off of a Ranger that he cuts and moves the turbo forward...i guess that would be easily duplicated.
the 2.3T Ranger is rough but runs. give me a few months before this big meeting.
let me know something on the header....FORCE FED 23

You've found the problem on the ranger, the AC air box sits right where the turbo wants to go. The only way around this is to relocate the turbo. The guy selling the header for $250, his name isn't Bob is it? If so thats supposed to be a great header and a very good price (I'm not sure how he does it, I'd have that much tied up in materials). That is actually a "weld el" manifold which is a thick cast steel. Its becoming popular for all aftermarket turbo setups because its cheap and its strong.
If this isn't it, give me a link to what you're talking about, I'm curious what they are doing.
Redoing the intercooler plumbing isn't a problem at all, we just may have to cut a hole in the core support (not sure what kind of room there is in one).

FORCE FED 23--- do you have any 2.3T parts. im looking for a vane meter. and is there a way to convert to mass air?
