Default Name that blown part!!!

Mustang wouldnt start, so I assume the battery is dead. No accessories, nothin. So, I hook up the jumper cables from my crx to my mustang, lots of sparks. Didnt like that and how warm the cables got quickly, so I was going up to unplug the stang, and all the sudden theres a loud pop and a lot of smoke.... its something just behind the battery. What could've gone wrong?

My guess would be............ you smoked a fusable link in one of the wires that comes off your starter solenoid that is mounted behind the battery on the fender. (fusable link looks like a tootsie roll) just fallow each wire off the solenoid till you see the link and try to determine if one of them is melbatoast. One might be grounding out on somthing and that caused the sparks. I had a simular problem and when the wire grounded out it fried my alternator.

Just a thought, could be somthing else but its worth a look.

Yo, Nick...you didn't cross the cables to the wrong poles and explode a battery, did you? Symptoms of this include sparks, hot cables, loud noises, varying size holes in battery, dripping, smoking liquid (H2SO4) dripping down fender well, block and occasionally the face.

thats one thing I'm sure I didnt do. Cables were on straight, the battery has no damage, just the unit behind the battery fried.
