ok, ive always heard for mounting slicks on wheels, you wanna stay +/- 1". Is that the bead width of the wheel? Heres the thing, i have a set of 8.5" slicks, and found some 15x8 wheels.. but he says from bead to bead the wheels are 7". Would this be cool? or would it balloon out the sidewalls too much?

With a 15x8" rim they recommend no wider than 10". Now I've seen guys shoehorn 11.5" on a 8" rim but u start to get the rainbow affect on the contact patch. The whole tire won't touch the ground. With your situation using a 8.5" wide slick on a 8" rim is perfectly fine. U may want to go to a 10" wide if u can fit it under the wheel well. The wider the better!

Mark beat me to it. A 9in wheel would work well also.

Its funny tho because the MT site says it has a 7.1" tread width and they say to use a 7" wheel.
I think im gonna go with some 15x8 bart wheels... 19lbs and $40 ea
and yeah... the honda kids only run 14" wide wheels for slicks, so they didnt know anything about these "skinnys"..
