Default Electric vs. Mechanical

I've been pondering the addition of an oil pressure gauge for some time. Before you say anything...not it is not going to be a)Indiglo, b) bright blue/red/green/pink, or c) mounted on the pillar next to a chrome fire extinguisher.

The easy way out for the Focus is a mechanical gauge, but I feel a bit uneasy about having oil coming into the interior of my car. Has anyone ever had any problems with oil leaking on a mechanical gauge? Hooking up an electric sending unit is a slight pain in the ass...but doable. Obviously this is more "failsafe", but I'm lazy and I like easy.

Well I'm definately going to start digging into this car in the near future. Maybe a ported head, or some sort of forced induction...I'm not quite sure. Plus the Focus never came with one from the factory (unless you have a SVT), and it is one of those gauges I feel is important for any modified car.

autometer makes a kit, steel braided #4 line for gauges, I have it in my car and been through many scca techs. I think it is only fuel they don't want inside the car

as a side note, with the #4 line and a mech. gauge it reacts real fast to changes in press, which is good for spotting a prob. before serious damage can happen
