While it may not have won the 12 Hours of Sebring or the 24 Hours of Le Mans, this 1966 Ford GT40 Mk II still carries a lot of history.



After a second-place finish in the 1966 12 Hours of Sebring–with Walt Hansgen and Mark Donohue behind the wheel–this Ford became a test car at Ford’s Kingman test track alongside J-1 and later at Riverside Raceway in preparation for Le Mans.

That same year, this Ford became one of just three Holman-Moody GT40 Mk IIs entered at 24 Hours of Le Mans. Its drivers? Paul Hawkins and once again Mark Donohue.



Following Le Mans, this Ford became a lasting piece of Ford history, being displayed at European motor shows from 1966 to’67 before Indianapolis Motors Speedway Museum received the car in ’68.

In 2011, the Ford was restored back to its #4 Holman-Moody 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans configuration and then shown outside of the IMS Museum at the Concours d'Elegance of America.
