The Shelby name carries with it a fine racing pedigree, spanning numerous decades and generations of car lovers. This particular car, the 2011 Shelby GT500 Need for Speed Edition, is likely remembered best by the latter of those generations.

The custom creation featured on the cover of Need for Speed: The Run, as well as in the videogame, and one lucky person will be able to own its real world, one-off equivalent – noted to be the last custom build attributed to the late Carroll Shelby himself. Need it? It crosses the block today on eBay, with all proceeds benefitting the Carroll Shelby Foundation.

 

One of a kind


Built by Shelby American, the bespoke Need for Speed Edition Shelby surely looks the part of a cover model. The GT500 comes dressed in Wimbledon White paint accented with Charcoal stripes, and features a number of unique styling additions, including 20-inch HRE competition wheels, a Shelby-designed fiberglass hood, menacing Super Snake badges, and a custom black and white interior. Better still, it has been signed off with Carroll Shelby’s own signature on the airbag cover.
Good looks indeed, but it should go like stink too. The GT500 features a 750 horsepower Super Snake package, which catapults all that power from the supercharged 5.4-liter V8 to the rear wheels through a performance aluminum driveshaft. Handling comes courtesy of uprated brakes, adjustable dampers, tuned stabilizer bars, and lowering springs from Ford Racing.

 

It’s a car that ought to feel at home on the street and on the track, and it would appear this one hasn’t seen much action in either venue – it shows only 2,000 miles on the odometer. If interested, the charity auction requires bidders to prequalify.
