Chassis Defect Stops Mustang Shipments !

Remember the post I put up last week about Mustang shipments were stopped and sent of premises ? Well here it is.
Last week Ford Mustangs were being diverted from the Dearborn Assembly Plant (DAP) to a non-Ford service facility owned by Roush Industries. The facility is located off the Southfield Freeway (M39) at 333 Republic Drive in Allen Park, Michigan. The Roush facility is also referred to as building 56.
As of 04 February 2003, Mustangs are still being diverted to the Roush facility for repair, but in far fewer numbers.
Several sources have said that 3,000 (+or -) Ford Mustangs were manufactured at DAP with defective body welds which support key structural components. The improper welds are attributed to a defective machine on the assembly line which went unnoticed. The defects prohibit the Mustangs from being released to the public.
According to reliable sources, Roush is drilling holes and using rivets instead of attempting to re-weld the areas in question. Mustang V6, GT, Cobra and MACH1 models are included in the service action.
Our earlier report stated that windshield wipers were left in the upward position. That's done to flag down which models are in need of repair as opposed to those that have been completed.
It is believed that NO Mustangs were delivered to dealers for sale, thankfully saving Ford the need for any recalls.
Ford sold 138,356 Mustangs in 2002, down 18.2% compared with 2001 sales at 169,198. January 2003 sales are down 16.6%
