Default Fox rear axle into a 99

I have a 99 that I'm considering putting an 8.8 into (it has an IRS currently) sitting in my stack of crap is a fox body (4 lug) 8.8. Since I'm thinking of building the rear anyway can I just buy the 99 axles (I have a 31 spline limited slip in my stuff) and using the cobra rear discs on it..sound do -able?
BTW what gear would you run with a 4 valve 5 speed?

You would need a sn95 or new edge housing the fox 8.8s are shorter then the sn95

Might be doable,.. but the fox housing are narrower than the 99 - 04 housings. Not sure how the axles would work sticking that far out past the housing.

The Fox and 94 - 98 (SN95) housings are actually the same width. Just that the 94 - 98 SN95 use a longer axle to allow for the ABS exciter ring between the rotor and housing. The 99 - 04 cars use both wider housing and longer axles than the Fox and 94 - 98 cars.

If your looking for a direct swap, I have a 99 GT that had $1700 done to the rear end shortly before we bought the car. Receipts to prove it. I'd be willing to do an even trade for your IRS. My wife wants an IRS. Just looking for someone to trade with. The car is currently at Shaun's (All American Street Cars) getting work done. I have no problem opening up the rear for your inspection.

What gear to run? Depends on your intended purpose. For drag duty an NA car would be fine with 4.10 or 4.56. 3.73 or 4.10 for regular street duty.
