You may or may not care to read this if you do not follow the circuit but it was nice to see Bradenton mentioned and the funny part was I watched these passes.
K.J. runs quicker than national record in pre-season testing:
Although the official start of the 2003 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing season is still three weeks away, Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco racing team have already staked a claim for this year's Pro Stock championship. During the first day of pre-season testing in Bradenton, Fla., Johnson's Chevrolet Cavalier was the class of the field, bettering the current NHRA records for elapsed time and top speed on several runs, culminating with an outstanding 6.716 second, 205.01 mph pass on Tuesday evening.
"This is a great way to break in our ACDelco Cavalier's new paint job," said Johnson. "We brought it to Bradenton to make sure it was fast before the official unveiling in Pomona, and after taking a few runs to get adapted to this racetrack, we ran a 6.74, a 6.72 and a 6.71 with the top speed on the last two runs over 205 mph. When you click this baby in high gear, the front end feels like it's going to come back off the ground, charging all the way to the finish line.
"The weather here is perfect for Pro Stock. The air is crisp, the barometer is high, and the temperature yesterday reached a high of 65 degrees. We may not see these conditions at any time during the year, but the important thing is that our ACDelco Cavalier is faster than everyone else. That's all that matters."

Well not only are the imports turboed or blown they also get to run different fuels, fuel injection, etc.. The Pro Stock cars have extremley tight rules as far as how the car must relate to the actual production piece, they get one kind of fuel, run carbs.
and so on. Now if you want to compare unlimited (for the most part) imports to a comparable domesctic look in the Pro Mod class. They can run either a blower or bottle.
The truly amazing part about the Pro Stock class is that they qualify 16 cars. 99% of the time the differenc between the fastest car and the slowest car that makes the field to race is less than .05 ! :o This is something I do not see in the import races. There is usaually a few clear cut winners before the race even starts and then the rest just fall into place. Granted the Pro Stock guys have been at it longer but it will be a long time before you see the consistancy that is found in the Pro Stock class.
I would love to watch a Pro Stock vs. Import race. Of course best 2 out of 3 to show the consistancy.

Pro-stock vs. Pro-import would not be an "apples to apples" type comparison..
Way too many variables that the imports can get around with the aid of adding more boost, etc..
Now if you want a race.. how about a Pro-mod vs Pro-import?
blower vs. blower or nitrous vs nitrous..
Impressive that they are making that type of power though, but you can't compare it to a Pro-Stock car.. two completely different leagues...

ah, ok, figured. Impressive for a n/a V8. The Pro Import guys are closing though, 4 are in the 6's now

IBTL-John is just such an import mark
