Default 1987 Crown Vic

Friend of my father inlaw has one and wants me to swap it to carb and put a cam in it.

Simple enough,.. how ever I have an E-303 cam I want to use.
87 302 Crown Vic used 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 firing order. E-303 is an HO cam that uses the 351/HO 302 firing order of 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.

Can I simply use the E-303 and wire the distributor as an HO? I dont see why it wouldnt work, but this is a grey area for me because I've never done it, so I am asking anyone else who has or tried. Will the HO cam work in a non HO motor?

Edit:
Also forgot to mention. 87 LTD Crown Vic have flat tops with no valve reliefs. Basically same as an 86 HO Mustang would have. So assuming we're talking about an 86, whats the max lift cam they will take before PTV issues? E-303 IIRC is .498 lift with 1.6 rockers.

Thanks man. Not sure how well the E-303 will work with those shitty heads but he's an older guy and just wants something that will give the motor a little rumpity rump,.. nothing too aggressive. I figured the E-303 would be perfect. Just going to put an RPM Performer on there with a 600 Holley, do a 1 wire HEI dizzy, Holley blue pump and the E-303 and he should be good to go.

He inherited the car from his mother. It has just over 40k original miles on it. It smells musty from sitting for so long. The EFI works but its breaking up when he gets on it. Its sat for so many years that I dont even want to begin to chase down where the problem is. I dont have the time for it even if I wanted to. He wants a carb on there, and that is something I have a bit of experience with. So if you pull up next to a Crown Vic wagon with wood grain panels and hear a rumpity rump coming from the flow masters and see a silver haired cocky senior behind the wheel,.. there ya go.

I'll find out when I pull the EFI off. Flat Tappet cams are cheap if I have to buy one. I can get him one with near identical specs just might be on a 112 instead of a 110 which should be better for that motor anyway.

Not sure where you got your info from but I pulled a lifter out today. Its a roller block. Its getting the E-303 I have.
From first appearance it looked just like a 5.0 EFI engine with the upper intake on backwards.
