Motor Combo
I'm wanting to do a motor swap but Im not quite sure what to go with. I think a carbed 351w would be sweet, but i was also thinking of a EFI 302/306 setup with some boost later on down the road. This is going to be for a street setup and done on a $2000 budget. It has to be reliable and wont kill me on gas milage. Ive got a friend who can get me a good deal on a donor car either 90-92 or 94-95, which will give me everthing I need for the 302/306 swap. The 351w block I can get for a good deal, it just needs cleaning. Then I would have to get all the other parts for it (crank, rods, pistons, etc.). Speed wise Im looking for low 13s. Ive got a 94 V6 with 128k miles, so a motor swap wouldnt be to bad.
This 16.7sec V6 just isnt much fun, but it gets me around. You guys have any suggestions on what I should go with? Also give me a good heads/cam setup to go with the carbed 351w and 302/306. Thanx for the info.

though for me, you'd have to change it to 10 inches, and you'd have to change inches to millimeters, and you'd have to change 10 to 5 and you'd have to change dick to poor excuse for one.

My roommate has a carb'd 351W in our laudry room. it should put about 300hp to the rear wheels. (actually it should put out much more, but it hasnt been on the dyno). I think it has about 5K miles on it, solid lifter. He was going to us it for a v6-v8 swap, but he bought hospwr's car. he'd probably sell it for what he bought it for (i think $2200, but could be a little more/less). it is complete, carb to pan. PM me if interested and i will get all the details for you.
Friend has a 302 block out of his 95, 30k miles on it.
Short block including pan, lifters, pushrods (i think) for $500, he has a cam that goes with it as well but I think he wants more for that. You could probably get the whole thing for like $450 (with the cam wolverine I believe). PM me and let me know.
Forgot to add that he has a freshened T-5 for sale as well, not sure of the price on that though.

After you get that stock short block from Strokd85's friend for $450, you can pick this up:
GT-40P: heads milled .080, intake matched to Fel-Pro 1250, exhaust matched to Fel-Pro 1415, 3 angle valve job, Manley valves, FMS springs, 7/16 ARP screw-in rocker studs, Manley guide plates, fresh lap job on valves.
Competition Cam camshaft: .498/.498, cam card available.
Scorpion rocker arms: 7/16 stud mount, 1.6 ratio.
Prime One pushrods: 5/16 .080 hardened.
Parts can be installed on stock 5.0 short block with no P/V clearance problems. Car made 301.6 HP / 331.4 TQ with an unported FMS Cobra intake, 65mm throttle body and exhaust. Dyno sheet available. With slicks, car went 11.97 @ 113.67 at 3125 lbs.
All for $850.00.
That will leave you $700.00 from your $2000.00 budget to buy a tranny, clutch, gaskets, oil, etc.
