Default loud clunk...wtf is it???

Problem:

put car in reverse, give it some gas, pull the clutch and CLUNK...feels like the transmission just abruptly moved to the left.

put it in first, give it some gas, pull the clutch and CLUNK...feels like it just went back to where it is supposed to be.

It doesnt happen if i baby it forward and backward, only if i hit it a little hard. from the drivers seat, it sounds like its right below me. feels kinda like something coming out of joint and then going back in. driveshaft? trans mount? inside the t45?

I'm havin the same problem but it sounds to me like the u-joints are going bad... other then that I would say its possible the tranny mounts are shot.

it seems to drive fine. no real vibration. if i do it in reverse and then baby it in first it doesnt make the noise. i drove through the parking lot of my office and after a lap i hit the gas hard and it clunked back.

if it's the tranny mount, should i go with a poly or solid one (my motor mounts are solid)???

i got mine from Tony at Need 4 Speed. Mutilated the driver side one, so when we put the 99 motor in i put the solid mounts in as well. i believe they were ASP parts. check out http://www.need-4-speed.com/asp.htm and down past all the pullies you will see the mounts. surprisingly, there is very little vibration, but i could feel a difference between from the factory rubber ones.

mine does it only after it has been sitting in the rain and i get a mile down the road then when you hit the gas you hear the clucking and it wont accelerate and it does it for 5-10 secs then goes away.

Sounds like tranny mount to me...possibly u joints. If you replace the tranny mount, I'd go with Urethane. If you get too much solid stuff under there, the driveline noise can drive you nuts. Ask me how I know
