older car ?
I am looking at buying an old torino. it's a '74 with a 351. how do you tell if it's a 351w or 351c and if it's a 4v or 2v. i was looking in my summit catalog for parts and din't knoww for sure.
Maybe the heads are wider I dunno shit about older cars

Look at how the exhaust manifolds bolt up. if all of the bolts are in a straight line front to back, its a windsor. if they are staggared high and low, it is a cleveland. That is probably the easiest way to tell. As far as 2v vs 4v heads, not sure how to check if the heads are on the car.

Cleveland has staggereg/canted valves and windsor is straight line. The 2Vhead has a 2 cast in the corner of the head and the 4v has a 4...pretty tricky if you ask me. BTW, you will want 2v heads unless you are building a car for Daytona Speedway.
If you can see the ports on the heads, the windsor will have large ports., the cleveland will have ports you can drive a Civic through.
There is a difference in the water neck location too. I think the windsor comes out of the intake manifold and the cleveland is in the block...little fuzzy on that one.
