If you're running 351w heads on a 302, you don't need to fly cut the pistons. The valves are almost all the same. (except for I think 1970 heads, but I could be wrong on the specific year. Hurst?)

I see no real reason why you would need to fly cut the pistons.

because i have a pair of TFS high ports that Matt at HPS ported for me and i would like to run a decent size cam . 2.05in 1.60ex valves

isky tool works great, easy, just time consuming to keep all the debris out

And you're gonna take a chance of cutting pistons by hand?

nothing steady at all. you use your heads as a guide. the cutter fits inside your valve guide. it looks just like your valve but it has a cutter on the bottom of it. You have a collar on top of it (the stem part) U push the cutter up against the head flat, then you use a feeler gauge for the depth of the cut. the gauge goes between the top of the guide and under the collar. tighten the collar with supplied allen screw against the valve cutter. pull guage away and drill till collar hits the top of the valve guide. bingo your done,,, just 15 more times

Thats where I got the idea to make my home made tool out of the actual valves and sacrificed a screw driver to extend it. Used my cordless drill and viola. It wasnt difficult at all.

My only issue is doing it on someone else's motor where if I screw up then not only is the owner out a piston but I look like an ass and may end up having to buy the piston myself. I dont feel comfortable enough to do someone else's ride even though I believe I could do a good job. I'd rather see someone who has a bit more experience do it and do it right. Especially if they have the tool. I would have to eat 2 of his valves and make my own to do it.

come on man, you guys act like its a ferrari. if i can get away with paying someone $150 to get these cut then thats a chance im willing to take. worst case i got 160k mi boat anchor. not like i cant get a shortblock w/less miles for under $300. i would still come out cheaper rather than going a different route.
