Default Solid motor mounts for a street car.

Hello everyone. Hope all is well. I have a question that I am posting on a few web sites and I would like your opinion. I am in the process of building an 88 Mustang GT, 327 stroker with a Procharger. This will be a street car. My question is on solid motor mounts. Due to blower belt longevity I want to run solid motor mounts so I can run a bar from the strut tower to the blower bracket for support. I have had people say that the noise and vibration from solid mounts can be so intense that my fiberglass hood will rattle, lite bulbs crack and so on. Others say there is hardly any extra noise. Can I get some opinions from people that have went from the factory motor mounts to the solid motor mounts and what I can expect. Thanks’ Jim

With a mild cam it wouldnt be too bad I suppose. I tried it once on a mild car and it vibrated the piss out of the chassis. For a race car I could see solid mounts. But I dont think I could tolerate solid motor mounts on a street car. Its up to you.

Same here, I dont run them anymore, because I sprung for the expensive polygraphites, but when I did use them, i didnt notice too much excessive noise or rattling... maybe I got used to it also.

I run solids and I don't think they are bad. But then again, I don't expect this to be a Lincoln Town Car.....

just a thought, run the solid mounts but don't do a solid transmission mount. it will have some vibration but not really that bad.

^ awesome advice. the solid engine mounts is not what kills you on the vibration side. its the solid transmission mounts that shake the piss out of you. i have solids ENGINE mounts in my bronco and mustang and the vibration is there but its not horrible.

Rick have you done this before? I've seen cars with solid engine mounts and a poly tranny mount snap the tail shaft housing off of a C-4 and one AOD, as it was the only thing able to flex. Also seen one car over at another local shop do the same thing but it was using solid motor and tranny mounts but still was using the factory tranny crossmember with the rubber inserts.

I would never run a solid tranny mount. My rambler had front and mid engine plates with a poly trans mount.
