Default Any tips on how to install a starter?

On a 89 GT with a manual tranny?

Can it be done with basic hand tools?

Disconnect the ground from the battery.

All you need is a simple wrench or socket,.. remove the 2 bolts that hold it to the bell housing. It will slide out,.. let it hang by the wires if need be. Remove the nut holding the wire. Remove and replace starter,.. reverse procedure to reinstall. It takes longer to remove 4 wheels with a single floor jack, than it does to replace a starter. Its really simple and probably the easiest DIY repair.

Question,..

How do you know the starter is faulty?

I would have the starter tested before buying a new one.

I think the new solenoid I put on burned it out. It sounded like it continued to try and start when I turned the car on.

Hurst, anyway I may be able to give you a call to get some help? Random, I know, but I need some assistance.
