no track or dr's just street tires. it started not far after the gear bolts came out. didnt think much of it at first but of course its gotten worse since i first heard it.

i think my 2 biggest questions to u guys is, is it ok to have play in the rear end? if so how much is too much...i was able to turn one of the rear wheels when i had it up there was a noticable slack from the time i turned the tire to the time the gear actually turned the pinion. and why would the noise only happen at part throttle and not at decel or accel?

Dont know where a wall mart is up there let alone a good shop .. lol sorry man

Do you know if they only shimmed the pinion or if they had to shimm the carrier too?

Cause from what your problems sound like is they did not shim the pinion right and either did not shim the carrier or messed that up too..

If you shim the pinion right you should not have to worry about the carrier shims that come in the kit...

Also with what GNs said before i would not be surpised if they used the ghetto special with your crush collar...

If your willing to buy the tool you can check your backlash and shim it your self if your up to it... Harbor freight sells them cheap....

Just let us know iam sure one of us could walk you through the process..

Hope this helps ya out

sometimes you wont hear noise at first when they are set up wrong. buy a video and the tools and do it yourself. I have done 8" and 9" rears before but never 8.8 . I did my 9" after a so called expert did it 3 times. and that was 10 years ago and it is still working good

Sorry if you look at the post time it was like 2am i was brain dead..

I had meant a dial indicator... They are not expensive a all you can decent one for like $15 from harbor freight

Or you can use a caliper...

but if you dont have either and cant afford to buy one..

Then an old trick is if everything is lined up perfect back there you should be able to put newspaper between the teeth and it should cut the paper smoothly.

Also instead of gear paste to check your wear i have heard of people using tooth paste.. but i would not put any dental products in my rear
