Air Filters
ok me and a friend of mine r have a little bit of a problem, he says K&N is THE BEST for performance and thats that.
I say, paper filters r the best for air flow; AEM for example. which i am lookin into gettin because i just have a Advance Auto brand, specter
so i would like to hear some opinions from a little more experienced guys.
R all filters about the same?
or r paper filters better?
OR is K&N the best? lol

K&N is ONE of the best on the market. I swear by them every time. There are some out there that can possibly equal their performance, but I haven't heard of any of them making that claim yet.
Paper filters are cheap for a reason. They're junk and clog too quickly. Ever go to a parts store that has a K&N filter display? ry it out sometime. The difference is obvious .

What do you mean by paper filter??
If you mean like what come in your car from factory then your buddy is way right and your way wrong. But iam sure you would know that because AEM does not make paper filters they use the same Cotton gauze tecnology as any hi performance air filter does... Which filters and flows better than any other filter out there.
So which bring me back to.. what do u mean by paper filter because i only know of 1

from wat i was told way back when i didnt know anything about anything, and is still dont know too much. thats why i am always asking advice. SO CALM THE FUCK DOWN LOL
i was told AEM had a paper filter, which is not like the stock crap, and was better than the K&N. Reason being, everytime u clean and respray the K&N it gets clogged more and more from the spray stuff that goes on it.
i can still be WAY WRONG though lol

Lol whoa whoa calm down dont get your panties in a bunch thats why iam here just trying to help. I wasnt talking down to you or anything like that man lol so lets take a deep breathe and stat over...
I was just confused by what you meant so now that you have explained that to me. The AEM filters still required to be cleaned and oiled like the K&N's.
The AEM's are not paper filters either... like i said in my previous most they use the cotton gauze technology. Which is actually pretty interesting K&N devolped it back in the day desert racing motorcycles and need a filter that could flow but also keep the sand and dirt out. Thus they invented the layered cotton gauze that was re usable and would last as long as the car.
Now as far as AEM over K&N i would go with K&N but to be honest iam not sure what the HP or filtration diff. is between them or any performance filter for that fact. I do know they all pretty mcuh work off the same principals & technology. Now with anything... K&N may use better materials that flow or filter better. But i dont think its an overwleming difference. Maybe the quality of the filter like how long it will last you but other than that I think they are pretty much simliar.
Hope this helped you!!

You were referencing paper filter but the correct term is "paper media". That is the Stock OEM replacement (Purolator), all other aftermarket brands such as K&N and AEM use a cotton bound oil impregnated media, which you can "recharge" and clean yourself.... hence it is able to stop dust particulates. Therefore, hence it is much better and flows better and introduces cleaner air into the engine. All the aftermarket companies are pretty much using the same technology. I remember when K&N where the only boys in town, after their patent expired, you seen so many other companies introduce "their" own renditions. but truthfully, it is all the same technology, its just that K&N was int he game first and longer.

And if your looking for a similar construction as the K&N go with the S&B Powerstack, that's what I use, better design, more sizes and shapes and the top is open to let air directly in which is good for the dragstrip when you remove the passenger side headlight..
