Is the fan the proper one for the water pump?

i.e. Clockwise rotational waterpump, and a counter clockwise fan would be bad.

Thats a great Idea cobra!

Also i would try giving it an oil change. I know if you run the wrong grade of oil it can cause the car to over heat.. Like yours is on the HWY when your at steady higher RPM'S. ALso when it is under alot of stress pulling the boat..etc..

Its a cheap and easy fix and worth a shot at this point.... & the more and more i think about it... It makes alot of sense

The only way an oil change would make it overheat is if you forgot to put oil back in it.

I'm with Cody on this one with the thermostat, but you said it's new.

It seems to me the t-stat spring is weak, so as the water get's flowing at higher pressure (high RPM's) its pushing past the t-stat into the tank. As the system cools down, the water will get drawn back from the overflow tank back into the radiator, which is why the coolant level never gets low.

Brett,

Have you tried taking it to a Nissan Dealership and trading it in on a Quest with the 3.5L VQ based motor? Would drive a lot better, won't break down on ya, get a higher resale value, probably comes with a warranty, and you can have a Nissan like me & the wife! LOL

Heat is created by friction. Oil helps in reducing friction. No oil,old oil, or the wrong grade oil will result in overheating.

At this point doing a 15 min oil change is worth a try. The van is gonna need one eventually.
