anyone know? or heard of anything like this before????

Octane pin directions

If your FordChip features the octane pin function these are the instructions on how it works. To determine if your chip uses this feature either E-Mail us or look at your instructions when your chip arrives.

From the factory the octane pin retards spark by 3 or 4 degrees when removed. This is to give the dealership a method to retard timing on an engine that knocks or if a customer is complain of knock.

This FordChip offers a different function for the octane pin. It adds spark when removed rather than retard spark. This is like having a premium fuel and a regular fuel calibration in one. In this chip the removal of the octane pin adds 8 degrees of spark requiring the need for premium fuel. When the pin is installed it runs on regular fuel.

On a ‘96/97 T-Bird/Cougar the octane is easy to find. It is a small gray plug located in front of the passenger shock tower. It may be wrapped in black tape.

On ‘94/95 T-Bird/Cougar the octane pin is in the same location but there is also a similar looking spout connector. The octane pin connector is one of these.

This plug can be wired to a switch inside the car so it can be flipped on or off at demand
