same problem after changing fuel pump
changed fuel pump still runs like crap. it spits and spudders during accelaration. runs fine during constant speed. could the carb need tuned? or is it still timing
Pull a plug, what did it look like? Do you have a regulator with a gauge on your new set up?? whats the fule pressure set at?
Its a Mustang with a looks to me a non-HO 302. Has a 600 vac secondary on it.
Fix the exhaust leaks and do a good tune up with decent parts (wires) and get rid of those 3mm skinny wires. Once you get a good foundation then tune it.
Edit: I'm not a fan of a vac secdary carb.

When he came by, it had a Mr Gasket fuel pump mounted at the front of the car (pulling) from the tank. When going through the gears, it will start breaking up at sounds like 2500 or so. I checked the timing (rotor) and it was off. I pulled a plug and they were way lean. I told him to change the pump, and move it to the back of the car, pushing not pulling. I set the distributor to #1 and it will pull up higher but was still breaking up at 4500 or so driving. It had some el-cheapo small plug wires on it.
I think he picked up a Holley Blue from DR. Dirt and put that on. Sounds like its still breaking up. I checked the float level and they were right on.

i put msd wires and the blue pump in the rear. reg says 8-9 pounds. I'll let you know what the plugs look like, when I can get to it i'll be gone the next couple of days. The timing order is for a HO motor.

You are running too much fuel pressure. Kick it back to 6-7 psi. Also, the carb may need to be tuned as far as the accelerator pump cam and squirters. What cam is in this thing again?
Tommy, is it possible that he is floating the valves at 4500 rpm? I know I had a million mile 302 once that had weak springs and would float around 4500 rshared_pm.

Being you have the feul pump and wire straightened out, Strart tuning the carb. I think you'll find it'll still be lean.
Does it have an MSD-6AL? Cant remember. If so check the limiter chip.
