Tech help here please...
92 Linocln with a 4.6. New transmission. Been sitting for about a year.
Sometimes it drives just fine......
Others, it's difficult to get it to go above 40 mph while giving it more gas. Give it less, and it drives fine.
Fuel filter possibly?

No acceleration. It falls flat on it's face. If you floor it, it just does nothing.
Turned out to be the fuel filter. The car died today while driving. I pulled over, pulled off the filter, and rusty fuel came out of both ends. I replcaed the filter with a new one, and was back on the road again. Then, I drove out to Ridge Manor, and the car died on the freeway......So once again, I pulled the filter. It had rusty fuel coming out of the inlet side, but was clean coming out of the outlet side. Called AAA....They sent out a rollback truck with a gallon of gas. He gets there and says "I can't tow a limo, but here's a gallon of gas." We put the gas in, and the car still doesn't start. So the tow truck driver drives away leaving me on the side of the road.
I call AAA and ask if I had AAA RV if they could tow me. They said no, because my car was a car, not an RV.
I tell them I'll cancel my renewal on Monday then since they are totally useless to me. (My current AAA membership runs out March 1st, and I renewed on Thursday last week) I call my mom and she brings me a new filter, and 4 gallons of gas. I put in three or so gallons of gas, and fire it up. (No need for the filter after all.) From the time the car died to the time my mom showed up - 4 hours. UGGH! All because the damned fuel gauge doesn't work right and it ran out of gas.
Oh well...So I drive it home (45 miles or so) and as I get home, it starts to stink like rotten eggs...I pull into the house and pop the hood...The batter is smoking!
I guess the alternator is overcharging the battery. The regulator is brand new, and the alternator was replaced recently. GRRRRR.....I have to figure this problem out now. LOL Any ideas?
Could it be that the regulator is not strong enough? (The car is a limo and has a special alternator, not a regular town car alternator, but the regulator looks like the same one that was on my 67 mustang before I changed it over to an internally regulated one.

Yeah....We make our own luck, I always say. The fact that I got to spend 4 hours of quality time with my wife and kids on the side of I-75 today was actually kinda nice. Turned out that the problem was just being out of gas. Who knew these car things needed this liquid called "gas"? I mean, meah...I guess I'll keep putting it in to the car....but the regulator and batter thing is kinda weird....I always thought that a regulator needed to be grounded to work properly. The guy I bought the car from insisted it doesn't and quickly bolted the regulator to the fender well which is plastic. Well, tonight, I decided to get out the trusty ol' volt meter and ran a ground to the regulator. The alt is putting out 14.40 volts while running now that I have a ground wire to the regulator. I automatically assumed it needed it, and never tested it with out the ground wire.
Oddly enough though, now when I turn on the headlights, it doesn't dim like it did before when it was idling.
Glad you have it worked out Tim. Sounds like you need to change the tank in that thing if its rusty, or you will keep having problems. Yes the regulator needs to be grounded or it will make a ground else where
ask me another time how I learned this.
It will ground by mounting screws if its mounted to a metal surface, or you have to ground it with a wire like you did. Be sure that it is a good gauge wire or it will melt it with a big alternator.
