Default Urgent question!! Need your help.

To whom who may knows about Ford vehicle please help me here: If a 2005 Ford Escape had a severe accident that caused the driver airbag to blow, and If the hit was on the right side- passenger side and there was no body on the passenger seat, should the airbag be blown even though no passenger was on the seat?? The hit was so strong that the passenger side door was buckled. If anyone have any experience on the mechanism of how airbag should work on Ford Escape 2005 specifically, please contact me on PM. I have pictures for the accident so if it's needed to have an idea what I'm talking about.

Sincerely,

Q

I dont know anything about the Ford Escape.

But if there is an option to turn off the passenger side air bag and it was in fact turned off for let say a baby seat was in the passenger seat,.. then no,. .it should not have gone off. But if lets say there is no option to disable the passenger air bag like in 94 - 04 Mustangs,.. then if the impact was severe enough to deploy the driver side,.. then so too would the passenger side blow even if no one was in the seat.

Thanks Hurstmeister. I really appreciate your reply. I don't know about that but I have to check, if it was supposed to blow and it did not I think we gonna do something.

there is a sensor in the passenger seat that that will turn the airbag off if a certain weight is detected (approximately the weight of a small child). If there is no one in the seat or it detects the weight exceeds the weight of a small child it will blow.

edit: this is just for the front airbags, i have no idea about the side curtains.

also, maybe SOMEHOW the sensor survived the impact?

I think that weight is around 75-80lbs. My son was so proud when he weighed enough to make the light go out on the dash

There is a weight sensor in the passenger seat. If there is no one in the seat it will not deploy.

As stated above each seat has a weight sensor in it which sends a signal to the rcm (restraint control module) if no weight is detected the bag will not deploy however if some weight is detected ie a small child the rcm references a different set of values and will either activate or deactivate the bag for that side of the vehicle
