Idle air control
so my idle is surging until the car turns itself off.. i don't have a cel for the IAC could it still be bad? i dont want to go to napa and spend the 80 bucks if it could be something else..
Yes. If you do buy one, dont buy it from napa. go to the dealer. Not sure if you know about these but they can be a huge pain in the ass at times. You could try just cleaning it first.

Nothing wrong with NAPA part. The only part I would buy from dealer is the OEM clutch cable. 'MOST' everything else is just fine through any of the parts stores. IAC can be cleaned,.. but usually when their gunked up bad enough its best to just buy a new one. Dealers get their parts from the same distributors most of the time. But if you can afford dealer prices,.. then by all means.
I would replace your PCV valve and check the grommet around the PCV also. Odds are that there is your culprit for the IAC getting as gunked up as it is. Regular oil changes also helps to minimize it as well. Else if your motor is tired and getting a lot of blow by then you'll just have to deal with it until its time to do a rebuild on the engine.

I partly agree with were to get the parts . I stopped buying anything from napa when in one day I got 3 bad alternators for one car and 2 bad startes for another , however , Parts Depot supplies the dealer. That same motorcraft part will cost about 30% more from ford. Parts Depot used to be Bumper to Bumper used to be Tropical. They supply ford and chevy dealers. You can walk in and buy what you want. Thats where I get all my parts. Most of the time a bad IAC valve will still do something if you tap on it. It might not work right but the RPM might change or shut off completely. When all else fails pull out the hammer
