Not sure what your asking Greg.

Are you asking what it takes to use a 4 cylinder T5 behind a V8? Or switching to a V8 T5 behind a V8? Either way there shouldnt be any problems. As long as the bell housing matches the input shaft for the tranny it should be fine. Gear ratio wont be off by that much. I'm not 100% sure but I think the V8 T5 has a .67 OD ratio and the 4 cylinder used a .84. Could be GM version of the T5 I'm thinking of.

you only have to change the pilot bearing (ranger deisel.)
it doesn 't handle as much torque but for a driver you'll probably enjoy. a much "lower" geared tranny, get ready to shift quick!

Thanks, that is what I thought I heard in the past --- the proper bearing solution.

Thumbs up T5 Identification

Greg, if the tag is still on the trans, this is the best site I have found to identify what gears are in it.

Identification Key to Borg-Warner T5 transmission ID Tags

Donnie can attest to what the 4cyl trans will do behind a mild V8. Shifting quick cause of the deep first gear and pullin' the left front is a common occurrence!

4cyl tranny is only rated at 240ft.lbs of tq compared to v-8 at 300ft.lbs of tq.
The 4cyl gearing sucks in my opinion, I like to have a usable first gear and decent overdrive.
My friend had a 4cyl tranny in his gt and then switched out to a word class t-5 from ford racing with 2.95 first gear and .63 overdrive and the car is way more fun to drive now and gets great highway fuel economy. He also has either 3.73 or 3.55 gear in the rear end too.
