What is EGR?
I have a 2001 focus and the motor was shaking while going 45 and you accelerated to keep up the speed. I took it to the Ford dealer and they said it was the EGR sensor. What is that? Its fixed whatever it was.

It recirculates some of the exhaust gasses into the intake manifold. This is supposed to be good for gas mileage since some of the unburned fuel goes back through the motor (I guess) and I think it may be good for emissions as well. Im planning on removing mine. Supposedly you can get a custom burned Diablo chip to get rid of the check engine light when you remove the EGR. If you experience stumbling problems but still want to keep the EGR...put a small vacuum restrictor on the line going into the top of the EGR. I did this to mine and it seemed to make a big improvement.

Thankx for the reply but Im not planning on doing anything to the focus was just wondering what the egr was. But would a bad egr make the motor shake like that. Oh and do you know where I can get a mass air sensor cheap?

It will make the motor run like shit particularly anywhere above idle (like cruising or accelerating particularly). Pro-M makes a mass air for the Focus I think it runs around $200.
