Default Hey muthalickas! 302 idle question.

So I'm still baller status with this 90 Lincoln I've been driving around, but it kinda dogs a little when I got the AC on. The non-AC idle seems fine, but when I kick the AC on I can hear that 302 dogging sound (you know that low drone they do). There an adjustment for that AC idle kick up on these things?

Are you still running the stock alternator? If so, time for a 130 amp upgrade. The AC is taxing a lot of juice from the electrical system which of course is shared by the injection system of the engine.

For some reason I just don't buy that. Is the IAC adjustable on these pieces o' shit?

I don't either. The battery would pick up the extra slack if the alternator couldn't put out enough power.

The IAC is not adjustable. They sell aftermarket kits that make it adjustable, but you're probably better off fixing it the right way rather than ****** rigging it and spending more money - the adjustable IAC kit is just a spacer anyhow, which won't fix the fact that your IAC is retarded like a man on an Ether binge.

I kinda agree with Helmet on the alternator. After putting in my 140amp I no longer have issues at idle with the a/c on or the lights.

Does your throttle body have an adjustment screw on it?

That is where I came up with my reply. Over a decade ago when my old 88 GT still had the AC system in it and I turned it on it went to that same drone you're describing. The stock alternators are garbage and they are also well known to catch on fire (happened to me, too). I'd consider the 130amp upgrade among the 1st things that MUST be done when buying a used 5.0 be it a Mustang or F-150, or in your case the Mark Pimpmobile.

I just cammed a car that had some idle issues before hand . The guy wanted a few things done anyway , cam , intake , exhaust .Ran good when done , turn on the air and it would almost stall , air and the radio it cut out , Put a 130 amp alternator on and all that stopped . Hutcherson auto electric sells them new for 150..

Hows that funny? A lot of throttle bodies have plates with adjustment screws on them that hold the butterfly valve open a little bit.
