what is a good price for a 1931-34 street rod
My Father in law is looking for a driver. Not a show stopper but a retro mod. Info on companies making kits and parts would be appreciated as well. Thanks for the info. Please post pics or links to ones for sale if you can find one.

Factory Five kits you can usually pick up for around 12.5k or so. Thats how much the cobra kits were last time I checked. The other ones should be priced similarly but thats without the drivetrain so youll need other parts as well.

The FF HotRod kit is around 18k I think. What a sexy looking machine they built! I have heard from a number of folks that it out handles the Cobra and Daytona kits as well.
The first thing your father-in-law has to think about is how much money he wants to spend. A driver is a car you buy, put tags on and drive. Kit cars are a hole other world, if you want to build from the ground up even with kit cars there is a lot of fab work plus drivetrain, wiring, paint , ect. plus fiberglass bodies need a lot of fit and finishing no matter who makes them. The first thing I would do is go to e-bay collector car then to hot rods and street rods. Look for the cars you like and check the price and the condition they are in, I find e-bay is a good way to see the best and worst in hot rods. I know of quite a few cars that are for sale finished or builders, I now have over $30,000.00 in my 28 ford and I still have quite a way to go to finish it. So my advice to your father-in-law is set a dollar amount first or you can get in way over your head fast--Al
He found one in VA for 17,000. I think the price is high as the car has no glass and paint is crap. The more I look though, the price might be right. By "driver" I meant he could care less about power or speed. He just likes the way the car looks and sounds. Dependability is a big plus and I like the idea of a basic 302 setup in one. I just want to make sure he doesnt get ripped off. A kit car is not out of the picture as he has the area to build the car in VA and will be retiring soon. I just want him to make an informed decision about the car and I know very little about vintage and street rod stuff. Thanks for the update and money numbers on your build. A picture would be nice if you get the time. Keep the good info flowing guys.
