Default Torque specs for shock?

Hey all!!!

Here a couple of months back I picked up a 1960 Ford F100 pickup with a 289 in it. Been doing a lot of work on it and am in the process of installing new Monroe Sens-Trac shocks on it. Shocks installed easy enough but I have no clue how much to torque the nuts down on them. I called the parts store and they gave me a "just tighten them" type answer but I know that there has to be at least some sort of guidline... anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

- Michael

The guideline is to tighten it till it's tight like the store said. If the wrench starts hurting your fingers, back off .001 ft lb and call it good.

Well "tighten them until the rubber bushings just barely start to bulge out" didn't sound right.

That's the way doctors fix broken backs. It should work for installing a shock.

Wait, I may be confused. That may be how they make herniated disks.

tighten them till they are tight . simple as that , when the nut doesnt turn anymore is tight. Thats the giudline your looking for, they arent head bolts

What was wrong with that answer? Well because "barely bulge" is open for interpretation. I cranked them down until the bushings filled the end caps and then put another nut in behind them to make sure they did not back out.

Replaced the rear shocks this weekend and it is a whole new truck.

1960 Ford F-100 - Tampa Racing

These were taken before the shocks... as you can tell by the slight tilt to the right
