New Guy with a Mustang (needs turbo)
hey guys, im new here. i was referred by my friend (nichole) to you guys. i have a few things i need help with, like my '97 3.8 mustang. i am looking for a turbo kit (custom is fine) or a list of the things ill need to acquire to turbocharge my car.
it is a highly modified v6/5 spd, ive already swapped out the 7.5 rear for an 8.8 trac-loc 3.27 unit, the car is only in need of a litle more power. it is a dialy driver, so thats why im opting for a turbo set-up.
ive seen the gray '05 twin-turbo mustang you have built and am surely in need of some experienced advice. ive only ever had NA cars. this will be my first boosted experience. thank you very much and i will check back soon and very often. i look forward to visiting again and again.
and p.s. that blue oval POS f@*ked me over for $600 on a shit rear end.....

I would just swap in a mild 5.0. The amount of money you would have to drop on that V6 turbo build would be right about in line with the 5.0. Maybe even cost more. As far as V6 turbo "kits," Im sure they are out there but I cant think of any off the top of my head. As for swapping in the 5.0, if you end up going that route then Hellion has a direct bolt on "kit" that supposedly makes right around 400 hp on a factory stock 5.0. Ill see if I can dig up the article somewhere. Its a pretty old one.

im not at all interested in swapping the engine. the key here is "driveability"... if i wanted a v8 car, i would just go buy a v8 car.
im not looking for a kit, per se...
maybe more like these "headers with this flange", two or three turbo choices, and how to up my injectors/fuel pressure and match it to the MAF...
the v8 swap is a rediculous idea. thats all i ever get as a reply and thats not what i want to do. i have had DOZENS of small-block mustangs. this is a daily driver and must remain turn-key...

If you really want to remain turn key honestly.....go shop for a turbo "kit". Dont get too cute with it. Buy a kit that has proven itself, bolt it on, drive, have fun.
No need to get all cute with custome build stuff when I know there are a handful of purpose built kits out there.
Just my .02 cents.

thats exactly what id love to find, any ideas where to find such an animal? thank you for your help, and sorry if i come across rude, but i really want to turbocharge this pony. its my girlfriends car and she wants to supercharge it, but ive got her interested in the turbo set up now. so now i need to do some homework.
thanks again
thanks again
Don't know what you're looking for but I've got a 64mm Garrett with a rebuild by CMR this spring. Only has a couple hundred miles on it before I switched to a T-70. $500

Ok, just because swapping in a V8 isnt something that you wanted to do doesnt make it a ridiculous idea. In my mind, it makes perfect sense, cost about the same, about the same amount of work, about the same amount of power.
As far as other power adders go, you could try getting the heads and supercharger off of a thunderbird super coupe. They ran pretty well. Unless of course, thats too ridiculous for you too.

Fat turds were pretty quick too. That seems like the best idea for you mission to me, they came with 24 or 30 lb/hr injectors stock so u would be saving mony on both ends and pick about a half of bill of HP.

GET SOME

no, ya jerk, i actually sold the SC set-up from a '90 t-bird. in order to swap in a 5L to my year mustang would require an entirely different dash harness, complete and correct engine harness, and a shit-ton of other crap im just not interested in. like i said, been there done that, and i know for sure that i can build this car turbo for FAR less than a $4k supercharger kit, or a thrown together supercoupe kit.....
to use all the crap off the SC would be rediculous, too, simply because of swapping out the entire harness, lower manifold, SC clearance, etc.
thanks guys for your other info.
maybe i should have worded my thread more carefully.....
I AM LOOKING FOR TURBO MANIFOLDS/HEADERS THAT WILL BOLT UP TO A 3.8L FORD ENGINE.....?
then my next thread wouldnt seem rediculous either...
I AM LOOKING FOR A TURBOCHARGER... simple enough?
that oughtta delete the 'just swap in a 5L like everyone else' attitude, no?
i want simple, straight-forward driveability.

thank you. and youre right, they did run well... they shouldve run that set-up in these body mustangs...
imagine the SC 1000lb lighter! woohoo!!! sounds like fun...
we are really set on a turbo set-up though. im open to suggestions as far as retailers go.... or maybe even an ad in your local newspaper that i wouldnt normally see...... anything
anything but a small block swap........
